History of Python
Python was developed by Guido van Rossum in the Late 1980s at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in the Netherlands. Python was conceived as a successor to ABC programming language. The implementation of Python was started back in 1989. Van Rossum fulfilled his responsibility as the project lead until 12 July 2018, then he announced his permanent vacation from his responsibilities as the project lead developer.
The active Python core developers elected a 5-member council as the project lead in January 2019. The council was named as the “Steering Council”. As of 2021 Barry Warsaw, Brett Cannon, Carol Willing, Thomas Wouters, and Pablo Galindo Salgado are the active members of “Steering Council”.
